Mountain and viewpoint near Hohnstein
At a height of 291 metres, the Hockstein offers spectacular views of the Polenztal valley 115 metres below. The transition from the Lusatian overthrust to sandstone is particularly evident at this location, as granite can be found upstream and sandstone downstream. The remains of a medieval defence system can be found on the Hockstein. The stone bridge that exists today dates back to 1821 and is one of the first tourist structures in Saxon Switzerland. The rocky spur is adorned with an engraved mill game.
