Information about Hohnstein town and castle on 54 panels
The starting point for the hike is the impressive Hohnstein Castle. From there, the trail leads across the market square to Hohnstein church, continuing through the beautiful Polenztal valley and along Wartenbergstraße. You pass the Hockstein and descend through the Wolfsschlucht gorge into the Polenztal valley. The trail continues via the Schindergraben, the Bärengarten and the Gautschgrotte before reaching the end at the market in Hohnstein.
Along this varied route, you will not only find diverse nature, but also interesting information about the history and geology of the region.
The around five kilometres of the second part of the nature trail take you through the Hohnstein forest and the surrounding hills. A total of 18 information boards await curious hikers here. Initially, the theme is rock formations and typical forest images and tree species. Later, the national park and its aims in forest reorganisation and forest management are explained. Further on, the stations tell the story of the Napoleonschanze and the former narrow-gauge railway as well as the tube path.
