Medical History Collections in Bad Gottleuba
The exhibition is located on the traditional grounds of the Bad Gottleuba Health Park, one of the largest contiguous Art Nouveau complexes in Germany.
The permanent exhibition documents the history of the first workers' sanatorium in Germany, which was opened on 19 May 1913 on behalf of the Royal Saxon State Insurance Institute. Historical medical equipment, instruments and furniture from the over 100-year history of the institution are on display on an area of around 700 m² spread over three floors. Special exhibitions are also organised at regular intervals.
Renovation work began more than 20 years ago in the former engine house, which now houses a unique exhibition. In contrast to other medical history museums, it mainly only houses objects from the Gottleuba clinic - from the X-ray sphere from 1938 and a stretcher on wheels from 1940 to the towel drying system that was used from 1913 to 1996. In addition, the collections are still managed on a voluntary basis, which is also a special feature.
History is now also available to listen to: Two new audio stations about the history of the sanatorium and the water treatments once practised here complete the offer and invite you to explore the exhibition interactively.
