Rammenau Baroque Palace

Short facts

A guest of the chambermaid

Baroque Rammenau Castle is a rarity: the only completely preserved manor house in Saxony! Hardly any other complex tells so vividly of the way of life of the Saxon landed gentry!

Heavy double doors made of dark wood open the way into the interior of the modern fairytale castle. Here, masterfully and imaginatively designed parlours tell of the former owners' understanding of art, sophistication and education. The Chinese Room, Pompeian Room, Bird Room, Peacock Room, Bulgarian Room and Hunting Room impress with their baroque and classicist interiors.

A particular attraction of the country baroque complex to the north of Saxon Switzerland, in the gently rolling hills of West Lusatia, is the harmonious composition of landscape, garden art and architecture.

The castle is particularly romantic in the run-up to Christmas: in the servants' kitchen, visitors bake biscuits under supervision, there are Advent concerts and on the second weekend of Advent, the castle traditionally hosts a small but exquisite Christmas market for browsing and feasting.
