National park information point Eishaus

Short facts

Saxon Switzerland National Park Information Centre

The ice house on the Großer Winterberg is a small outbuilding of the Großer Winterberg mountain inn. It was once used as a cold store for the ice blocks used in the inn. On the ground floor, an exhibition highlights nature through the seasons and illustrates the subject of geology with relief views of the Großer Winterberg. Its tourist development and discoveries along the Malerweg trail also receive attention here. A new exhibition area was set up on the upper floor in 2013. On picture and text panels, you can inform yourself extensively about the forest development of the past millennia in Saxon Switzerland. An interactive screen presentation conveys knowledge about the development of the natural forest. Furthermore, an interesting diagram (diorama) addresses the much-discussed topic of bark beetles. A visit to this information point is a "must", not only for guests of the National Park, but especially for locals.
