The Grundmühle and the Ferdinand Gorge

First documented in 1515 as a mill with three wheels (one wheel drove the saw, two the grinder). Rebuilt in 1727 including a bakery. At low water, it also served as a malt mill for the Binsdorf castle brewery (Bynovec). In 1814, a distillery was added. At the end of the 19th  century, the Ferdinandsklamm punt ended here. A tavern was built at this time. For several years the customs guard had its headquarters at this place. After 1945, the mill was abandoned. Today it is merely a romantic ruin. The Grundmühle is located in the Kamnitz valley. There are marked hiking trails in the vicinity to Vysoká Lípa, Kamenická Stráň and Jetřichovice.

The Ferdinand Gorge (Ferdinandova soutěska)

The Ferdinand Gorge is located between Srbská Kamenice and the Grund Mill. From 1881 onwards, punt rides were offered here, which were used by tourists to get from Srbská Kamenice to the Grundmühle, a popular place for excursions. Today it is no longer passable. The blue-marked hiking trail leads above along the left bank of the Kamnitz. The Ferdinand Gorge can be reached from the Královský smrk across a meadow, at the end of which you have to wade to the other bank until you reach the place where the dam once stood. The notches in the sandstone blocks in the river can still be seen.
