Imposing viewpoint in the Bielatal

This artificial bastion was built by the Rosenthal master builder J.G. Kaiser in 1880 in keeping with the taste of the times. The story of how it came about is a curiosity - the idea to build it is said to have originated from a beer-fuelled regulars' table bet! From the vantage point, you have a wonderful view of the fairytale Bielatal valley and the Hercules Columns, which, with a bit of luck, are covered in a light snow cap.

Be careful, the chilly winter air usually brings snow and icy conditions, so it is advisable to hire ice skates in these weather conditions - e.g. from the Bad Schandau Tourist Service.

Winter hiking tip: Herkulessäulen - Johanniswacht-Runde
