Short facts

Gallery workshop "Ansichtssache" in the Canaletto city of Pirna

Rich in detail, accurate, but also atmospheric and lively: Canaletto's vedute are fascinating works of art. The Venetian painter, whose real name was Bernardo Bellotto, also immortalised the town of Pirna in eleven vedute during his visits around 1750. Today, they can be found in museums around the world, most of them in the Old Masters Picture Gallery in Dresden.

A creative walk through Pirna in the footsteps of Canaletto: Painter and city guide Claudia Pinkau, who runs the Ansichtssache gallery workshop near the historic St Mary's Church together with Heike Küchler, invites you to do just that. Equipped with a pencil and sketchpad, participants will discover the exact locations where Canaletto drew almost 300 years ago: the Schiffervorstadt, Sonnenstein Fortress, the market square and more. Afterwards, interested participants can turn the sketch into a watercolour in the gallery workshop.

Claudia Pinkau and Heike Küchler also offer a variety of other creative courses: plein air painting in the footsteps of Caspar David Friedrich, animal painting for children, watercolour painting for beginners, open print workshop and more.
