The town of Pirna pays homage to the famous Italian veduta painter Canaletto with its Advent market. As a court painter in the 18th century, he immortalized the impressive small town on the Elbe in eleven large paintings. Today, the market square in front of the town hall looks almost exactly as it did in these views. At the Advent Canaletto Market, the surrounding baroque facades form a magnificent backdrop for over 40 market stalls, which offer Pirna originals and typical Saxon delicacies. One of the highlights is the art market on the third weekend in Advent.
