Mine tour in the only visitor mine in Saxon Switzerland.
Until 1892, iron ore was mined here on the edge of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and then processed in the region. In 2006, the "Marie Louise Stolln" was reopened as a visitor mine. You discover the tunnel on foot, which leads horizontally into the mountain and after approx. 400 m you reach the Mother of God camp with its impressive underground lake. On the way, your guide will tell you about the history of the mine and the work that was once done underground. Life-size figures depicting the miners at work and old working tools accompany the stories. Guests of all ages can try out the power of iron ore with a magnet.
The climate underground is constant, with high humidity and temperatures of around 8-10°C. Closed shoes and a warm jacket are strongly recommended, and you will receive the mandatory safety helmet on site.
The 90-minute guided tours are offered all year round.
In particular during the vacation months, due to the limited number of participants per tour, we recommend that you make an (online) reservation to avoid waiting times.
Glück Auf!
