Neustadt in Saxony – a winter dream

Spending winter pleasurably

“…among the many beautiful valleys I have seen, my charming Neustadt valley is and will always be the most delightful of all…”  with these raving words, Neustadt-born Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger, a pioneer of the local travel business, described his home place. Definitely do not miss the sight of this valley from the elevated viewing point called Götzinger’s Height. When the picturesque landscape is turned into a magic snow-white land, winter pleasures start at the Rugiswalde skiing hill which is part of the Neustadt municipality. Thanks to modern ski lifts and snow-making facilities and well-prepared cross country skiing trails in Rugiswalde district, Neustadt has meanwhile developed into a destination for the cold season, no longer known to insiders only.  It is not far from Rugiswalde to Mount Ungerberg Inn, where you can relax and enjoy hospitality after an exhausting day on the skiing slope.

Fans of Caribbean flair get their money’s worth in Mariba Leisure Park. A wave pool and a giant slide, whirlpools and a spa area promise fun and recreation. Neustadt Hall is another icon of the town and a venue for culture and entertainment. Countless theatre performances, concerts and lectures take place there and contribute to the town’s cultural life particularly in the winter months. In Berthelsdorf town district you can follow the gold miners’ trails on a gold and mineral experience site. The exhibition there displays informative, entertaining and inspiring facts about gold and minerals in the legendary Hohwald Woods. Another suggestion for the winter season is a visit to the museum of local history with its interesting temporary special exhibitions.
