The tour begins at the terminus of the Kirnitzschtal railway at the Lichtenhain waterfall. Behind the car park, you first cross the Kirnitzsch over a small bridge and follow the signs for the Malerweg trail on the left. After a few metres, the trail continues uphill to the impressive Kuhstall rock cave at Neuer Wildenstein. At the Kuhstall (the path branches off to the left of the railing of the rock gate), the Himmelsleiter (ladder to heaven) takes you between two rock faces and up many steps to another magnificent viewpoint. The descent initially continues along the Malerweg trail via the steps to the left in front of the rock gate. Shortly before the descent, there is also a Malerweg stele with interesting information about the Malerweg. Once you reach the bottom, the paths divide in different directions. The tourist trail that begins here (marked with a red dot) continues straight ahead and first crosses Zeughausstraße and then Königsweg. After the arduous climb (still marked with a red dot) up the Kleiner Winterberg via numerous steps, you are rewarded at the top with a magnificent view towards the Hinterer Raubschloss. From here, the trail continues along the "red line" markings to the summit of the Großer Winterberg (556 m). In the 19th century, you still had a wide view of the Elbe valley from up here. In the meantime, the area has become heavily wooded and the unobstructed views that still existed back then are unfortunately no longer there.
