Beautiful, varied hike near Hohnstein, which is also interesting for children.
Hohnstein, car park P3 Eiche
Hohnstein, car park P3 Eiche
From the P3 Eiche Hohnstein car park, which is subject to a charge, you follow a 200m long road uphill to the car park at the old railway station. From here, walk towards Brandaussicht until a path branches off at an acute angle to the right after a retirement home. Follow the path marked with a red line for a few metres until you reach a crossroads, where you turn off at a right angle. Keep left at the next crossroads after approx. 50 metres and you are now on the quarry path. The trail continues leisurely on a finely chipped surface through loose woodland until a descent to the former quarry begins on the right. In the quarry, you can make a short detour of around 50 metres to a layered joint cave, which is well worth seeing. Continue along the half-path with green line markings. After approx. 1km of walking, the trail descends for approx. 150 metres. There are several larger, sometimes knee-high rock obstacles to overcome. Soon afterwards, at the Großer Halben and Kleiner Halben climbing peaks, there is an opportunity to take a break. A visit to the Gautschgrotte cave is also recommended here. A little later on the hike, you can already see the walls of the former bear garden and Hohnstein Castle above it. The route then takes you back to Hohnstein via a steeper passage and finally over cobbled streets and back to the starting point.
