The start and finish of the hike is the Sebnitz National Park railway station, which can be easily reached from Bad Schandau on the National Park railway (U28). Those travelling by car will find free parking here.
From Sebnitz National Park railway station, head towards the town centre through the railway subway and then immediately turn left onto Kreuzstraße. After approx. 250 metres, turn right onto Haseleitenweg behind the Kräutervitalbad Sebnitz. The route then continues for a short distance (approx. 50 metres) to the left on Böhmische Straße before immediately turning right again onto Weberstraße and, at the end of this, turning left up the steep upper Rosenberg. It is worth taking a quick look back at Sebnitz here.
Then follow the path past the "Forellenschänke" allotment site to the forest and then follow the signpost towards "Sebnitzer Urzeitpark" into the Sebnitz forest. Walk through the forest along the Kälbersteig (wide forest path) to the Tannenhütte - a striking, slightly higher shelter at a fork in the path. If you like, you can take your first short break here or continue along the path to the next fork in the road, where you keep left and continue along the "Alte Nixdorfer Straße". After approx. 800 metres, you will see a sign inviting you to take a short detour to the Hubertus Chapel.
After the short detour, continue along the Alte Nixdorfer Straße, where you will pass a memorial stone. At the next major crossroads, keep left and follow the signposts towards Bernigweg and Wolfsstein. The route then continues somewhat impassably - at least the forest path appears to be more overgrown here - until the next signpost points towards Wolfsstein. However, you only follow this for a short distance and then immediately turn left again onto the Wolfssteinweg, where after approx. 100 metres you continue cross-country on an inconspicuous forest path up the mountain to the Wolfstein (see pictures).
You can take your first rest at the Wolfsstein - there is definitely a place to sit down. From the Wolfsstein, walk back a short distance and then turn left back onto the Alte Wölmdorfer Straße, which you then follow to Vilémov.
Once in Vilémov, cross the border into the Czech Republic behind a piece of land and follow the village road through the railway subway and from there continue along the blue line to the Maria Himmelfahrts church. Next to the church, under a large tree, you will find the St Mary's Fountain.
From the church, continue along the blue line out of Vilémov across a large open field directly to Tanečnice. A stony path leads up to it and at the end a path through the forest.
On the Tanečnice, you can stop for refreshments and, in good weather, enjoy a spectacular view before descending again behind the restaurant on a path through the forest (see pictures). Follow this until you come to a large forest road again, where you keep to the right and follow the yellow line at the next fork until you reach the border crossing.
From the border crossing, follow the yellow line along the Mannsgraben for a short distance (approx. 80 metres), turn left again at the next opportunity and hike up to the Kaiserberg, where you have a small view called "Spitzbergsicht" down the ski slope. From there, follow the yellow dot along the "Ilse ohne Sorge Weg" in the direction of "KiEZ" down the mountain to the Buchbergaussicht, which is located directly below the KiEZ "An der Grenzbaude". Finally, follow the blue line through Sebnitz to the beautiful market square and from there back to the railway station.
