Šaunštejn (rock castle)

Short facts

  • Česká Kamenice
  • Natural monument, Information…

One of the most beautiful rock castles on the Bohemian Way, north of Vysoká Lípa on the red-marked hiking trail leading to the Small Prebisch Gate.

The original Berka castle was built in the 13th century. At the beginning of the 15th century it fell as a pledge to the Warttenbergs. The castle also played a role in the wars between the Warttenbergs, Saxony and Lusatia. At the beginning of the 16th century it was abandoned and fell into disrepair. From Schauenstein Castle there is a magnificent view of the countryside dominated by Rosenberg (Růžovský vrch).
