Tour description

  • Day 1: Individual arrival in Dresden
  • Get in the mood for your cycling holiday: Dresden, often affectionately known as the ‘Florence on the Elbe’, offers ideal conditions for doing so, with something for everyone, from culture vultures and active tourists to night owls. A stroll through the baroque old town, a visit to the Semper Opera House or climbing up to the dome of the Frauenkirche could be the perfect way to get in the mood for your holiday on the Elbe.
  • 2nd day: Stay in Dresden or excursion to Bad Schandau (approx. 45 km)
  • Today you have the opportunity to explore the city of Dresden. Alternatively, we recommend taking the S-Bahn to Bad Schandau (tickets not included in the tour price). Your first bike tour starts from here. Bizarre rock formations, Königstein Fortress, the Bastei Bridge and Pillnitz Castle are just a few of the attractions along the way.
  • Day 3: Dresden - Meissen (approx. 30 km)
  • The area surrounding Dresden is just as beautiful as the city itself and offers many attractions to explore. Today, you will cycle along wonderfully developed paths past the Karl May town of Radebeul towards Meissen. If you want to cover more kilometres, we recommend a detour to the hunting lodge of Augustus the Strong in Moritzburg, which is situated in a picturesque setting. Once you arrive in Meissen, you can delve back into the history of the Electorate of Saxony. The Albrechtsburg Meissen and the magnificent cathedral tower high above the cityscape of Meissen. Porcelain enthusiasts have the opportunity to visit the famous manufactory in Meissen.
  • 4th day: Meissen - Riesa or Strehla (approx. 28 km or 36 km)
  • Today's bike tour takes you from Meißen on the Elbe Cycle Route to Riesa or Strehla. Here, too, you will be amazed by the pretty castles on the Elbe, some of which also open their gates to visitors. Dare to take a look behind the magnificent entrance gates! Riesa itself offers a tasty range: Visit the Noodle Museum and learn everything about the many shapes of pasta. If you happen to be in Riesa on a weekday, you can even take a look at the pasta being made at the Riesa pasta factory.
  • 5th day: Riesa or Strehla - Torgau (approx. 48 km or 40 km)
  • Today's stage is very varied, with quiet, wide Elbe meadows, detours into the surrounding area and small towns. Soon you will reach Belgern, the only place in Saxony with a statue of Roland. Now it is not far to the destination of today's Elbe cycle tour: the Renaissance town of Torgau. Here it is worth visiting Hartenfels Castle and the castle church. This is considered the first Protestant church in Germany and was consecrated by Martin Luther.
  • 6. day: Torgau - Lutherstadt Wittenberg (approx. 68 km)
  • At the beginning of today's cycle tour you will still be accompanied by the Elbe, before you say goodbye to the river briefly after about 10 km and follow the Elbe Cycle Route inland. Passing an arm of the Old Elbe, you will soon reach the town of Pretzsch, which looks back on over 1000 years of history. With its Renaissance castle, the town church ‘St. Nikolaus’, the Wieck'sche House and the local history museum, the small town on the Elbe has plenty to offer for an interesting cycling break.
  • From here you have the option of continuing your cycle tour on the Elbe Cycle Route on the left or right bank of the Elbe, as the Elbe Cycle Route and its alternative route are very well marked on both banks of the Elbe. You will soon arrive in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, with a view of the Elbe.
  • 7. day: Lutherstadt Wittenberg - Dessau (approx. 37 km)
  • Today's stage to Dessau first takes you to the world-famous Wörlitz Park and Garden Kingdom, where a 100-hectare complex with its islands, canals, temples and sculptures invites you to linger. In the afternoon you will reach the destination of your cycle tour: Dessau. Those interested in architecture will get their money's worth here, because the Bauhaus style was established here under Walter Gropius.
  • Day 8: Individual return journey or transfer service to Bad Schandau
  • Today you have to say goodbye to the Elbe. You start your return journey or take advantage of our transfer service back to Dresden. Of course, it is also possible to extend your cycling holiday with a few more nights in Magdeburg (or other places along the route).
