• A good basic level of fitness, surefootedness and a head for heights are required for this hiking tour.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Bad Schandau

Use the afternoon for a short stroll through the tranquil district of Bad Schandau or take the ferry to the spa town. A hike along the Caspar David Friedrich Trail is also a great way to get in the mood for your hiking tour of the highlights of Saxon Switzerland.

Day 2: Bad Schandau – Schrammsteine – Lichtenhainer Wasserfall – Kirnitzschtal (approx. 11 km, approx. 5 hours)

The first hiking tour takes you to the Schrammsteine. Here you will have to overcome some steep ascents and metal stairs. Once you have reached the Kirnitzschtal, it is only 700 metres to the Lichtenhainer waterfall. From here you take the bus to Bad Schandau, where you will stay overnight. Alternatively, you can take the historic Kirnitzschtal tram (extra cost).

Day 3: Bad Schandau - Lilienstein - Königstein (approx. 12 km, approx. 4 hours)

Today you take the S-Bahn to Rathen. From Rathen you walk along the banks of the Elbe via the Lottersteig to the Lilienstein, the emblem of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. The Lilienstein offers a particularly beautiful view of the entire Elbe Sandstone Mountains. After a descent with many steps and a ferry ride to Königstein, a short but steep ascent to the impressive Königstein Fortress follows. Take time to visit one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe. Afterwards, take the S-Bahn to Rathen, where you will spend the night and enjoy a delicious dinner.

4th day: Kurort Rathen - Hohnstein - Bastei - Kurort Rathen (approx. 12.5 km, approx. 4.5 hours)

This stage takes you through the wild and romantic Polenztal valley. The route through the rocky valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Today you will climb the Hockstein via steps and ladders. You will continue via the Amselgrund and the Schwedenlöcher to the famous Bastei with its rock bridge. You will descend to the spa town of Rathen.
