Bohemian Switzerland – a winter dream

Let’s say ahoy to nature

“Ahoy” says the friendly lady sitting behind the counter window of the ancient wooden pay kiosk at the entry of Tyssaer Wände (Tyssa Rock Walls) nature trail in Bohemian Switzerland. Why the Czech greet each other and their guests like sailors will probably always remain their secret. It is a matter of fact: The border between Saxony and Bohemia is one of the oldest in Europe. And beyond it, much is different: Language, currency, food, mentality, humour. This as well as the particular bizarre natural landscape makes the Czech part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains an exciting trip destination all year round.

Tyssa Rock Walls situated south of Rosenthal –Bielatal is one of the most popular attractions on the Bohemian side. The cold season brings the opportunity to enjoy in great tranquility the curiously shaped cliffs, romantic wild nooks and majestic views. Among other highlights of winter rambles in Bohemian Switzerland are the mighty Zeidler Ice Falls, a wonder of nature to be seen in snowy winters some 7 kilometres south of Šluknov (Schluckenau), the Bohemian part of the Kirnitzschtal Valley with its icicle caves, the impressive views from Dittersbach or the majestic Tetschen (Decin) Castle.
