From the hikers' parking lot in the Kirnitzschtal valley, we start out on the "Alte Straße" (old road), which is almost flat at first, but after just 200 m the path begins to climb. The following 100 m long section is asphalted, but it is the steepest part of the ascent. It then becomes slightly flatter before the gradient increases again after a second upswing of another 200 m - but this time on fine gravel. Still very steep, we continue to climb uphill until, after what feels like an eternity, the terrain finally flattens out. The most strenuous part of the ascent is now over and the last section to the Kuhstallhöhle cave is even flat.
From the Kuhstallhöhle or the inn, there is also a short detour to the Schneiderloch or the "Krummen Karoline", both of which are not wheelchair accessible.
The way back down via the "Kuhstallstraße" (as shown on the map) should only be tackled by those who have sufficient personal support, as this hiking trail is very steep and stony. (Otherwise, return on the approach path!) It remains difficult for at least 800 m to the crossroads where the hiking trail branches off over steps to the Lichtenhain waterfall. We now keep to the right and follow the path running parallel to the slope, which finally takes us back into the Kirnitzschtal valley. The last part of the tour follows the Kirnitzschtal road back to the starting point.
