From the parking lot, we first walk northeast along Altendorfer Straße towards the end of the village until a paved hiking trail branches off to the right. We follow this slightly downhill to the edge of the forest, where we turn right again onto a field path. Now we have to climb uphill for around 700 m, which can be a little more difficult depending on the seasonal condition of the path. Once you have completed this section and reached a farmstead, the most difficult part is behind you. There is also a nice rest area where the path joins Pestalozzistraße. After that, the road is asphalted except for the short access to the tower, which has good concrete paving. The detour through the village to the north-west to another rest area is particularly worthwhile because of the beautiful view towards the Vordere Sächsische Schweiz. However, all the beautiful views of the surrounding area during the hike can also be found on the observation tower. In this respect, only the excursion to the tower is recommended for connoisseurs.
If you prefer a more leisurely stroll, you can also take the shortest route from the parking lot to the barrier-free viewing tower.
By car from Bad Schandau via Rathmannsdorf along the steep, narrow road to the district of Höhe or from Altendorf coming from Sebnitz.
The parking lot for visitors to the observation tower on Altendorfer Straße (see starting point on the tour map) is free of charge and easy to roll on.
Attention: In order to get to the elevator of the observation tower with a wheelchair instead of the swing gate, which is not passable for wheelchair users, a so-called Euro key, which is also used for access to disabled toilets, is absolutely necessary! However, you can only open the gate with this key once you have paid the entrance fee (currently EUR 1) by inserting a coin.
A signposted disabled toilet is located behind the community center, but is currently (Sept. 2023) unfortunately not accessible.
