Schrammsteinbaude, Ostrau
Ostrauer Mühle (campground), Kirnitzschtal
The Schrammsteinbaude in Zahnsgrund is the starting point of the hike. Our path branches off about 200 metres below the inn. We follow the Lattengrund steeply upwards (marked with a blue line). It is a narrow valley, bordered by rock faces and lush greenery. At the top, at a fork, we keep left and walk to the large national park information board. From here, we follow the signposts to the Großer Schrammtor gate, which we walk through on a sandy path (additional M(alerweg) signpost).
The Große Schrammtor is one of the mighty cuttings in the Schrammsteine. The hiking trail leads narrowly between eroded rock faces.
We then take the next turn-off to the left, the Wildschützensteig. The Wildschützensteig is a path with metal steps, ladders, wooden planks and handrails through a cool, damp gorge that takes us almost to the top of the Schrammstein viewpoint. After the ascent, we keep left and hike towards the Schrammstein viewpoint. The ridge path leads directly to the famous Schrammstein viewpoint, which is exposed on the heavily craggy Schrammsteine and offers a marvellous all-round view of the rocky landscape.
Back from the viewpoint, we stay on the ridge path and hike to the next path branching off to the left (Mittelwinkel, green dot). We descend here. At the next large crossroads at the bottom, we keep straight on (towards Wildwiese) and then take the next wide path to the left. From here we follow the green line towards Ostrauer Mühle. The tour ends in the Kirnitzschtal valley at the Ostrauer Mühle mill.
Sure-footedness and a head for heights are required!
The tour is suitable for children, but not for dogs
