About 20 kilometres long tour, slightly uphill, largely car-free.
The tour starts in Pirna at the train station and leads over the Old Town Bridge to Pirna-Posta. Immediately after the bridge, the route heads upstream towards Stadt Wehlen. Before the bridge over the Kratzbach, turn left into Grundstraße and pedal uphill to Mocketal. The tour follows Wehlener Straße to the right for a short distance. After a few metres, the Herrenleite branches off to the left. You can cycle comfortably on the narrow asphalt road through the shady forest. Sandstone was once quarried in the area. At the beginning of the 20th century, a railway line was built to transport the stone. Parts of this facility are now used by the "Historische Feldbahn Dresden e.V." association and are open to visitors on certain days.
The Herrenleite finally leads to Dorf Wehlen. Here we recommend a stopover in "Little Saxon Switzerland", where buildings and rock formations of the region have been built true to detail and in miniature. From Dorf Wehlen it is only a few kilometres into the valley to Stadt Wehlen. At the market there, the cyclists' church has opened its doors to visitors.
The ferry takes you to the left side of the Elbe to the district of Pötzscha. A little further uphill is the former home of the painter Robert Sterl. The small museum is considered one of the few original artists' residences in Germany. From here, the tour continues on the Elbe cycle path downstream to Pirna, where a detour into the wonderfully renovated old town concludes the tour.
