A special nature experience on this tour is the boat trip on the Obere Schleuse, a reservoir in the narrow, deep Kirnitzsch gorge. The Kirnitzsch was dammed as early as 1580 in order to transport felled timber downstream towards the Elbe. In the 19th century, the first "summer holidaymakers" were transported through the romantic gorge by barge. The beautiful tradition of boat trips is still practised today.
