Schmilka - Kripphorn view - Großer Winterberg - Frienstein & Idagrotte - Kuhstall - Lichtenhainer waterfall

You hike from Schmilka via the Bergsteig, the shortest and therefore steepest ascent to the Großer Winterberg (refreshments available at the "Großer Winterberg" mountain inn). A detour to the Kipphornaussicht is recommended beforehand - the path leads along the "Winterbergstraße" (forest path) for a short distance. The Kripphorn view is one of the most beautiful views in Saxon Switzerland.

Continue along the Fremdenweg and the Reitsteig (marked with a blue line) to the turn-off towards Frienstein (marked with a green line). A detour to the Ida Grotto is only suitable for those with a head for heights. (The Idagrotte is a rock grotto with a magnificent mountain view).

From the Frienstein, steps lead down to the "Königsweg", a path marked in red which you follow, turning right and walking below the Affensteine to the junction with the "Malerweg". Follow this path to the imposing "Kuhstall" rock gate (refreshments available at the "Kuhstall" mountain inn). An ascent via the Himmelsleiter ladder to the Kuhstall plateau is a worthwhile detour.

From there, the trail descends and ends at the Lichtenhain waterfall in the romantic Kirnitzschtal valley, which has been a tourist attraction since the first half of the 19th century.
