The Große Pohlshorn (378 m) is a vantage point in the Saxon Switzerland. Away from the crowded trails, this panoramic rock is a less well-known but rewarding hiking destination. If you look closely, you can recognise the striking Kleinstein Cave in the distance. In front of us lies the Großer Zschand - a wide dry valley in the heart of the national park, forests and rocks. Bus stop Neumannmühle, Ottendorf (Sebnitz)
The hike begins at the Räumichtmühle bus stop in Saupsdorf. We follow the green line markings through the Mühlschlüchte. First we reach the Kleine Pohlshorn (detour to the right of the path). Back on our path, we continue to the right and reach the Große Pohlshorn as the next viewpoint.
Back from the Grosses Pohlshorn detour, we turn right (green line). Later we go downhill, cross the Kirnitzsch and continue to follow the green line uphill. At a crossroads, we take another detour to the Großer Teichstein (412m), which is well worth a visit (turn slightly right). The ascent requires surefootedness and a sense of adventure. The eroded sandstone near the summit is impressive.
Back from this view, we keep to the right (green line) and hike to the armoury. The Zeughaus is now a small restaurant; the Zeughaus National Park Information Centre can be visited one house further on. Among other things, the information centre provides information on the historical use of hunting with details on capercaillie, lynx, wolf and deer hunting.
Continue along the wide path through the Großer Zschand (yellow line) to the Neumannmühle mill in the Kirnitzschtal valley, the end point of the hike.
The tour is suitable for children, but only to a limited extent for dogs due to the many steps on the descent to the Großer Pohlhorn and the Teichstein.
