This hike first leads through the cool, wooded Knechtsbach valley. You reach Ottendorf via gentle meadows and fields. The highlight of the hike is the sandstone pulpit of the Großstein, from where you have an impressive view. The way back leads along the narrow and varied path of the rafting trail.

The Lusatian thrust can be easily traced on this hike: At the end of the Cretaceous period, the granites of Lusatia were pushed onto the rocks of the Elbe zone. The pressure generated on the sandstone plate created the fissure system of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. This change in subsoil can be clearly recognised by the different vegetation. The V-shaped slope of the Knechtsbach valley and the undulation of the fields and meadows around Ottendorf are indicative of Lusatian granite. An impressive contrast to this is the view of the rugged rocky landscape from the sandstone pulpit of the Großstein.
