The tour starts at the national park train station in Bad Schandau, which is easy to reach with the Dresden S-Bahn. From here, the route first heads east along the road (B169), from where you have a beautiful view of Bad Schandau.
After approx. 800 meters, turn sharply right up Täppichtsteig in the direction of Kleinhennersdorf (red line), where you meet the Forststeig - a left-hand trekking route - for the first time. You then follow this trekking route with a yellow line as a marker, some of which is simply painted on trees, until you reach the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein.
On the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, we recommend a detour to the viewpoint of the same name with a wonderful view of the right bank of Saxon Switzerland. There are also three very interesting and impressive caves on the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein - the Lichterhöhle, Hampelhöhle and the Eishöhle, although you may have to search for the latter among the boulders.
After the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, the route continues to the Papststein, where the red dot leads you and from which you can see not only the destination of the tour - the Hoher Schneeberg - but also the whole of Saxon Switzerland on the left.
Next, the tour leads to Cunnersdorf, for which you have to follow the road towards Cunnersdorf for a short distance after descending from the Papststein, before turning left along a forest path and then a field path following the yellow line. At the next signpost, turn right and follow the red line downhill via the Kirchsteig to Cunnersdorf.
Once you arrive in Cunnersdorf, you can admire the neo-Gothic neo-Romanesque church in Cunnersdorf and some beautiful half-timbered houses right on the edge of the path, before continuing a short distance through the village to Katzstein - yellow line.
Once back in the forest, leave the path with the yellow line and turn left - then follow the green dot over the Katzstein to the Rotstein.
On the Katzstein, you should not miss the "Signal",Katzsteinfels and Schneebergblickviewpoints, from which you can gain breathtaking impressions.
The Rotstein itself is only a small climbing peak with an interesting stone structure and a slightly reddish color. After the Rotstein, you continue along the Forststeig trail to the Rotsteinhütte - a trekking hut where you can spend the night for a fee.
After the Rotsteinhütte, you first follow the Forststeig downhill and then a little to the right along the Mittelhangweg, before leaving it after a sharp turn to the left via the Nässeweg and following it down into the Grund to the Cunnersdorfer Bach. Once in Grund, continue along the forest road to the right and follow the signs to Fuchsteich along the Fuchsbachweg. You will pass the old rafters' bridge and some very interesting rock formations before reaching the protected Fuchsteich pond.
Behind the Fuchsteich pond, you then follow a path across the German-Czech border and then continue along some forest paths until you meet the Forststeig trail again on a paved road. Follow this and the green line up to the Hoher Schneeberg, from where you have a spectacular view.
The tower on the Hoher Schneeberg is generally closed, but you can get the key for just 1 euro in the kiosk behind it.
For the descent to Sněžník (Schneeberg), we recommend first following the yellow and green line over the High Schneeberg and then the red line down to Sněžník. Once you arrive in Sněžník, you can take the hiking bus back to Königstein or even Pirna directly from the hotel and restaurant "Hřebenová bouda" (Kammbaud) on the main road.
