Surrounded by orchards, a gem is hidden on a plateau between Dresden's city limits and the town of Dohna: the village of Röhrsdorf. Here, a relaxing little tour leads into the Röhrsdorfer Grund. It is suitable for a leisurely Sunday afternoon stroll.
The route starts and finishes at the Saxon-Bohemian farmers' market. The route then leads through the castle park, Röhrsdorfer Grund and back through the apple orchard. The tour is signposted as Röhrsdorfer Grund and Apfelrundweg. The redesigned Röhrsdorfer Schlosspark and the revitalised landscape garden in Röhrsdorfer Grund are the highlights of a six-kilometre circular walk.
In the 18th century, the von Carlowitz family had a landscape garden with paths, grottos, bridges and resting places created in the idyllic Grund. Friends erected statues and inscription plaques. But it soon fell into oblivion. The Röhrsdorf local history society has been rebuilding it since 2007. And the castle park has almost been restored to its former beauty. Long boards, which stand on the site of the former orangery, provide information about the location, the tradition of fruit growing and the history of the castle. The route starts and finishes at the Saxon-Bohemian farmers' market.
