The tour starts in Hinterhermsdorf at the Hoffnung bus stop and continues along Schandauer Straße for about 70 meters in the direction of the town center. Then turn right along a small side road to Buchenstraße, from where you follow the green line in the direction of Hinterdaupitz (Zadni Doubice) or cycle route 3032 to the "border crossing for tourists" into the Khaatal (Kyjovské údoli).
After around 2.5 kilometers, leave the yellow line and continue left at the large fork in the trail, following the yellow line in the direction of "Weißbachtal-Schäferräumicht". Immediately after the sharp left-hand bend behind the imposing rock overhang, turn right onto a small path over the stream and then up a small path up the slope into the forest. You then pass a few buildings (houses) and follow the path through the valley in the direction of "Kyjov" (Khaa). Keep to the right and cross the Kirnitzsch over a large, wide bridge. You have already crossed the border into the Czech Republic by crossing a small wooden bridge over the Weißbach and are therefore already in Bohemian Switzerland.
You can easily recognize this by the fact that the signposts in Bohemian Switzerland look different and are labelled in Czech, the national language.
The route then continues to the left towards "Kyjov" along the Khaatal, where there is plenty to discover in addition to the beautiful countryside. First you pass the "Johann Hille memorial plaque" high up on a rock and then, after about 2 kilometers, the so-called "Tourist Bridge" (Touristický Most), where there is also a large shelter with extensive information about the area.
If you then follow the Khaa Valley and thus the red line in the direction of "Kyjov" (Khaa), you will reach the so-called "Fairy Cave" (Jeskyně víl) at a turn-off to the left down into the ground via a mountain path (green arrow). This is located in a cul-de-sac up the slope and takes its name from the fact that many small stalagmites made of ice form in it in winter, which look like little fairies. For this reason, the path to it is also secured with a chain so that you can hold on to it in winter when it is icy and thus secure yourself.
However, it is also worth visiting this cave in spring, summer and fall before continuing along the red line to the Khaa rock path.
Once you reach the Khaa rock path, you should not miss two short detours before continuing along the yellow line. On the one hand, after a short stretch further along the Khaa valley, you come to the so-called wine cellar, a small rubble cave on the banks of the Kirnitzsch, where you can also admire ice stalagmites that look like wine bottles in winter. In the rest of the year, however, the nature in the stream bed is fascinating and makes the short descent just as worthwhile.
After the wine cellar, walk back a short distance and then follow the signpost to the left in the direction of "Klenotnice" - the treasure chamber.
The treasure chamber is an interesting and equally impressive rock grotto to discover and explore before returning a short distance back to the Khaa rock path - a tourist trail. The rock path is marked with a yellow line throughout and leads to Khaa via a few interesting steps and paths between and over rocks above the Khaa Valley. Here and there you will also find a small wild view and many places to take a break.
ATTENTION: the pictures of the area are taken from the other direction - therefore only partially suitable for orientation. But the adventurous path is well marked.
On the rocky path, you also pass the Brüdersteinen and briefly pass a small section before heading back up to the second section and a final wild view. At this view, you then descend to the left back into the Khaa Valley and follow it further to the right to Kyjov (Khaa).
Once in Kyjov, continue along the road until you reach a refreshment stop - a large, simple inn. However, the opening times of this are not yet known - you can find out more in the corresponding section of the tour description.
After the inn, follow the main road to the right following the yellow and green lines until you reach an old school on the hill. From there, continue along the road past a small chapel and a small reservoir until you leave the village again and enter the forest. In the forest, keep right - leave the road and follow cycle route 3031 until you reach the green markings again. Then follow the green markings up to Hřebec Hill, from where you follow the green line towards Brtníky for a while.
At a fork in the road, leave the green line and continue along "Cycle Route 3031" until you reach a large shelter, where a signpost with a blue line shows you the way to the right in the direction of "Brtníky". Follow the blue line past a turn-off to the left to "Niedermühle" (green arrow - where you could take a shortcut) until you reach a crossroads, where you turn left back over the Kirnitzsch to Germany and spot an impressive stratified joint cave on the right. There is a black marble memorial stone at this Schichtfugenhöhle cave in the middle of the forest commemorating Jewish victims of the Second World War.
After taking a closer look at this memorial stone and the Schichtfugenhöhle cave, you return to Germany via the Kirnitzsch following the yellow line in the direction of "Taubenstein". You pass the Niedermühle mill, where you have to keep right and hike up the slope behind the second building.
Then follow the yellow line in the direction of "Hinterhermsdorf" and don't miss the Reißershöhle cave - a large stratified joint cave - in the lower part of the Reißergrund (after a short climb down the path on the left) before reaching the Taubenstein viewpoint at the top of the mountain.
Finally, on the way back just before Hinterhermsdorf, it is worth taking another look back from the so-called "Lehmhübel", where the "fairytale bench" invites you to linger for a while and let your gaze wander into the distance. The route then follows the familiar path through Hinterhermsdorf back to the starting point - the "Hoffnung" stop, where you can end the day in the inn of the same name and recover from the tour.
