Děčín Castle lies high above the mouth of the Elbe and Ploučnice rivers and is one of the most important historical buildings in North Bohemia.
The first fortifications were built on this site in the 10th century. From the 12th century, the site was documented as a castle and later transformed into a Renaissance palace.
After the Thirty Years' War, the estate passed to the Thun-Hohenstein family. Under their direction, the castle took on its Baroque character, including the monumental driveway "Lange Fahrt" and the rose garden.
In 1835, the composer Frédéric Chopin lived here for a time. After decades of military use, the castle was gradually restored from 1991 onwards.
Today, it is open to the public. Guided tours, exhibitions, a historic rose garden and events make for a varied visit.
