Versatile idyll at the foot of the Bastei

Only about 40 kilometres from the art and culture city of Dresden, the traffic-calmed "state-recognised climatic health resort Rathen" with the parts Niederrathen and Oberrathen offers peace, relaxation and active recreation. The small, well-kept holiday resort lies directly on the Elbe at the foot of the world-famous Bastei.

Visitors can explore the wildly romantic Bastei massif on the well-developed, partly certified hiking trails of various levels of difficulty. You will get fantastic views of the picturesque rock formations in the heart of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. At a performance in what is probably Europe's most beautiful natural theatre, the Felsenbühne Rathen, every play becomes a special experience against the fairytale backdrop of the Basteimassiv.

Guests can discover Rathen's surroundings in a variety of ways while climbing, canoeing or on the Elbe cycle path. From a gondola trip on the Amselsee to a boat trip on the Elbe with one of the more than 100-year-old paddle steamers, there is also a lot to see on the water. The railway worlds, the largest garden railway in the world, also attract visitors to Rathen.

Extra tickets are needed for the transport of pets and bicycles and for trips beyond the fare zone boundaries of the region. The Saxon Switzerland Mobility Guest Pass is valid during your stay including the days of arrival and departure and is non-transferable.
