Königstein
The town and its districts lie at the foot of the legendary Königstein Fortress. It is a picturesque starting point for excursions to the table mountains of Saxon Switzerland and the romantic valleys all around.
The town of Königstein with its districts of Pfaffendorf and Leupoldishain lies embedded in the picturesque landscape of Saxon Switzerland, on the banks of the Elbe. The town owes its name to the former castle and later fortress, which was first mentioned in a document in 1241 and still offers its visitors an insight into its history. Königstein Fortress is a unique witness to European fortress architecture.
Thanks to its central location, Königstein is also an ideal starting point for a wide variety of excursions in the surrounding area. A hike through the wildly romantic valleys all around or to the Table Mountains is the best opportunity to marvel at the untouched nature of the National Park.
From the Lilienstein, the Pfaffenstein or the Königstein Fortress you can enjoy a magnificent view far across the valley of the Elbe. The oldest paddle steamer fleet in the world and the Elbe Cycle Path also offer varied opportunities for a discovery tour through Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland or as far as Dresden, the capital of Saxony.
